The heart of M&E productions is Mary-Ellen Ouellette. She is a retired Major specializing in combat surgical nursing while in the United States Air Force with 3 deployments to Iraq. She has also earned several prestigious honors during her time in the Air Force including Meritorious Service Medal, Air Force Achievement Medal, etc. She is now working for University Hospital in San Antonio helping perform transplants. She is also mentoring to new nurses who are just starting. Mary-Ellen has been an inspiration to all of us at M&E Productions. Her spirit of helping and kindness is addictive. When she needs to be a bad ass, she is. When she needs to be kind, she’s not afraid to be.

Mary-Ellen also understands firsthand the dangers of post traumatic stress syndrome. On November 5th, 2017, in Sutherland Springs, TX, there was a mass shooting at a First Baptist Church. Mary-Ellen was called in to help assist with the incoming trauma victims from the shooting. After being away from the environment of mass trauma like that, she relived her days from Balad.

Our upcoming film, Dear Casey, tells the story of Mary-Ellen’s life during deployment. As a combat surgical nurse she saw unbelievable trauma. She saw the arms and legs blown off. She saw burns to 90% of the human body. She helped perform surgeries on soldiers who should have gone on to have to happy lives but for some reasons didn’t. It would be enough to make anyone want to give up on believing that humans can be good to their fellow humans. Yet, Mary-Ellen continues to believe humans have an inherent goodness unto themselves. We, here M&E productions are determined to show combat through her eyes.

In Dear Casey we take Mary-Ellen’s thrilling story, and we want to tell it accurately on the silver screen. We believe so much in Mary-Ellen, that we want to do justice not only to her but to every single airman, seaman, and soldier who served, serves, and will serve.
